The Minister noted that with Guyana being committed to accomplishing the Millennium Development Goals, the sessions of the past week form part of Government’s thrust in this regard especially as it relates to maternal and child health.Minister Ramsaran said that upon the completion of the necessary administrative processes, most of the doctors will be stationed at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation. At least five will make their rounds at the Mahaicony Hospital, currently staffed by only Cuban doctors.This, according to Dr. Ramsaran, will allow for the re-establishment of a Guyanese presence at the facility, the bi-linguistic nature of the doctors making them prime candidates.Dr. Narine Singh said that this was the ninth in the series of training programmes aimed to further train doctors, as is in keeping with the policy of the Health Ministry.The workshop was sponsored by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the Maternal and Child Welfare department of the Ministry of Health.
