Non-ferrous scrap metal dealers say that they are on the brink of bankruptcy given the fact that the Prime Minister has not lifted the ban he imposed close to two years now. Some members of the association yesterday by way of correspondence to the Prime Minister and copied to Head of State Bharrat Jagdeo, Attorney General Charles Ramson and Head of the Presidential Secretariat Dr Roger Luncheon,Authentic NHL Jerseys, appealed for a lift of the ban.The letter is signed by six non-ferrous dealers – Percy Cole,Allen Iverson Jersey, Mohanie Persaud, J Gokul, J.L. Sadhum Nazim Pashaw and Robert Ross. The members also pointed out that the ban which is still in effect is in contravention to the Old Metal Dealers Act given that in the amendments it stipulates that the Minister,Wholesale MLB Jerseys 2018, “may order prohibit all metal, or any specified kind or description of old metal,Anders Bjork Jersey, from being shipped or otherwise exported from Guyana for a specified period of time not exceeding one year.”The dealers are contending that they would not mind getting out of the business but are appealing for a temporary lift of the ban so that they could export the non ferrous metals that they have currently in their possession.“We simply want to export our metals and get out of the business.”The signatories to the correspondence to the Prime Minister outline that between them they have some $76M worth of metal to export. One such dealer speaking with this newspaper, yesterday, said that they never knowingly purchase metals unearthed from any illegal activity such as vandalism, but the current ban which has been in force for some 19 months now is crippling them financially. It was pointed out that several attempts have been made, to no avail, to seek to have this situation rectified. In November last, the Guyana Scrap Metals Dealers Association (GMSDA) had cause to write to the Prime Minister seeking to have the issue resolved. In that document the association stated that,Alexis Sanchez Chile Jersey, “we were never informed clearly, on what is our Government’s position on the export of non-ferrous scrap metal out of Guyana…We were of the opinion that the present suspension of the trade will be only for a few months, so that our Government can properly streamline the trade…However, the trade is now closed for over one year, with no sign of an early re-opening.”At that time, the association had pointed out if the Government’s position was to permanently or indefinitely close the trade in non-ferrous scrap metal, then they are prepared to comply and accept that decision and get out of the business. The GSMDA stated that, “We will no longer collect nor want to ship any non-ferrous scrap metal in the future, if so advised by the government…However, at this time, we humbly beg you,Bobby Doerr Jersey, to please allow us to ship out before the upcoming Christmas season, whatever non-ferrous metals we are having in our possession, so that we can move on to other businesses with the proceeds from the sale of our non-ferrous metals, which represents our life’s savings.”The scrap metal industry came under increased scrutiny in recent times given the increased acts of vandalism being perpetrated.
